For Democracy and Against Authoritarianism: Empowerment and Inclusion Through Radical Change
We are proud to announce today the publication of that the final report from our last Youth Conference, For Democracy and Against Authoritarianism: Empowerment and Inclusion Through Radical Change. As previous years, the report is organised around four central themes. This time around, the conference dealt with the challenges and possibilities of democratic society under the following headings: “Peaceful Minds, Peaceful Societies” discusses physical and mental health, as a prerequisite for individuals and groups to exercise citizenship in an equitable way, and for societal resilience in times of crisis. Under the heading “Engaged Citizens, Active Communities”, the issues of polarisation and disengagement are tackled through a reevaluation of education, sports and community service. The section entitled “Rethinking Democracy” addresses the declining legitimacy of political institutions and aims to revitalize them through a combination of citizens’ assemblies and economic empowerment of less privileged political candidates. Economics are central to the last theme, “A Common Good Economy”, which aims to challenge the ideal of perpetual growth and put well-being at the centre stage through a unique combination of direct democracy and the allocation of public spending.
We wish to give our most sincere thanks to the IYC 2022 team for their hard work. Together, they have been able to combine daring radicalism with sober realism, sharp intellect with warm empathy.
