Returning to the Athens Democracy Forum

28 - 30 September – Athens Greece

22 September

For the second year in a row, we are proud to be invited to the 10th anniversary Athens Democracy Forum on 28-30 September at the Zappeion Megaron in the Greek capital. Managing Director Urban Strandberg is attending the event together with Youth Fellows Larissa Möckel, Michele Castrezzati, Fabian Wiek, and Elena Vocale. The IYTT is responsible for several important items in the programme and our attendees will come well prepared for a busy few days.

On Friday the 30th at about 12:55, the Youth Fellows will perform a reading of Conversations with Strangers, a short play based on the Open Chair Democracy Talks, written by Swedish playwright and director Jacob Hirdwall, active at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. The play is based on the hundreds of conversations that Youth Fellows have had with citizens in the streets of Europe during the past year.

Later during the Friday, at about 14:10, the Youth Fellows will present their latest innovation in democracy development, under the headline “Bright Idea”. The brand-new Handbook for Innovative Democracy is a collection of tangible policy proposals, gathering the bulk of the ideas developed so far by the IYTT. In an accessible format straddling the border between printed and digital media through a clever use of QR-codes, the Handbook presents proposals by policy areas and resource parameters, working as a user-friendly inspiration for democracy-renewal that fit the local needs, contexts, and capabilities of decision-makers.

Youth Fellow Michele Castrezzati didn't get a chance to attend the ADF last year, but he saw the sights.

Our Youth Fellows will also appear as critical “Youth Hack” commentators during the Democracy & Culture Foundation pre-plenary event “Building Blocks of Democracy”, on Wednesday 10.00-12:30.

True to form, and in collaboration with Teens for Democracy, the IYTT will also run several Open Chair Democracy Talks, during the breaks at the ADF as well as in the evenings in the streets of Athens.

Attending the Athens Democracy Forum online is free of charge. Register here.
