Youth Democracy Dialogue to Strengthen African Democracy
April 21
On the 10th of April, IYTT Youth Fellows based in Gauteng (South Africa) ran an event at the Swedish embassy
On the 10th of April, the work of some Gauteng (South Africa) based IYTT Youth Fellows who are also Youth Advisors to the Embassy of Sweden in SA came to life!
The fellows first contacted the embassy last year to discuss various ways they could collaborate to implement solutions from the IYC 2024. One of the ideas was for the embassy to host a dialogue with young politicians to see how various parties can support this. This culminated in the 10th of April’s Youth Democracy Dialogue, where young politicians, policy experts and the embassy’s youth advisors were presented with the IYTT’s conference proceedings by its fellows and then had an open discussion on ways to collaborate to implement the proposals.
A key outcome of the dialogue was the various political parties commitment to co-create an action plan to implement the proposals. We are excited to continue pushing towards implementing these proposals to strengthen African democracies.
