The IYTT Director has been awarded with the Charles F. Kettering Global Fellowship
4 March 2026
Dr. Urban Strandberg, Director of the IYTT, has been awarded with the Charles F. Kettering Global Fellowship, bringing together a diverse cohort of five thought leaders from around the world, representing various fields including academia, civil society, civic tech, and journalism.
After seven years of hard work on democratic innovation and youth engagement, the International Youth Think Tank (IYTT) was recognised for its significant contribution to advancing inclusive democracy when its Director and Co-Founder, Urban Strandberg, was awarded the Charles F. Kettering Global Fellowship. The IYTT is grateful to the Charles F. Kettering Foundation for this recognition and for the opportunity to increase the impact of its work.
This is an important moment for the IYTT, as we seek to expand our activities to different regions of the world. In the face of mounting challenges to democracy worldwide, we are convinced that a transnational and global approach is essential. Relying on the change-making potential of young people, we aim to build alliances across borders and divides, bringing people together in strong alliances and inclusive democratic institutions. Receiving the Charles F. Kettering Global Fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to build on our previous work and reinvest in renewed efforts and projects in more places and contexts. In doing so, we will certainly benefit from opportunities for connection, solidarity, and mutual learning with like-minded individuals and organisations.
The year ahead will see the launch of remarkable new initiatives such as Charta 25 and Project GenZ, as well as our expansion to new horizons with the annual International Youth Conference. While the IYTT staff and Youth Fellows will devote their energies to this project, recognition and support from the CFK Fellowship will give IYTT access to a broader community of partners and practitioners, as well as the opportunity to participate in the foundation’s international network. This will significantly enhance our capabilities and potential impact.
